Shannon Hader is Dean & Professor of the School of International Service at American University. Most recently (2019-2021), Dr. Hader was an Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations (UN) and Deputy Executive Director for Programmes at UNAIDS. She’s a global health diplomatic who’s known for connecting local and global solutions, working across research & program as well as policy & politics, using data & evidence to drive new actions, and forming multi-sectoral partnerships that bring together community, government, private sector, and academia. Previous roles include: Director, Division of Global HIV & TB at CDC; Vice President & Director, Center for Health Systems & Solutions at Futures Group (now Palladium); Senior Deputy Director, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD & TB Administration, Washington DC Department of Health; Senior Scientific Advisor, PEPFAR at US Department of State; Director, CDC-Zimbabwe. She is a former 2018 candidate for US Congress (WA-8). She’s board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics & Infectious Diseases.
