Biography

Debra Haire-Joshu, R.N., Ph.D., is a Professor and Division Director of Behavioral Science and Health Education and the Director of the Obesity Prevention Center at the Saint Louis University School of Public Health. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Health Education from Southern Illinois University, and a Master of Science in Medical Surgical Nursing and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from Saint Louis University. Dr. Haire-Joshu has a history of research supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and currently focuses on the prevention of obesity-related chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer in women and children. Her most recent studies investigate the effect of parent-to-child interactions combined with computer-based media technologies in the promotion of positive diet and activity patterns. Her research partnerships with national organizations have developed models for translating research to practice across the country. Dr. Haire-Joshu has authored and coauthored numerous publications, has served on multiple professional and editorial boards, and is a frequent member of NIH scientific review committees.
