Biography

Barbara L. Kornblau, J.D., OTR/L, is Professor of Occupational Therapy and Public Health in the Colleges of Allied Health and Osteopathic Medicine and Adjunct Professor in the Sheppard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University. Her research interests include Asperger syndrome, the impact of disabilities on the quality of life and participation, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and ethical issues in clinical practice.

She has a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a J.D. from the University of Miami. She holds certifications in case management and disability management and is board certified in both pain management and disability analysis.

As an occupational therapist, she has worked in rural as well as urban communities and the spectrum of settings from acute care to rehabilitation, to long-term care, to community-based programs. Currently, in her private practice, she consults with employers to make accommodations for workers with disabilities. As a practicing attorney, she specializes in health and disability-related issues, including ADA litigation and consultation.

She is a fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). During her three-year term as AOTA President, she consulted with many state, national, and international health-related organizations in a policy advocacy role. She has served on the advisory boards for the American Academy of Pain Management, the American Society of Pain Educators, and the Asperger Coalition of America. She has also served on the Commission for Case Management Certification and was Co-Chair of the Florida Disability-Diversity Initiative’s Committee on Physical and Communication Access to the Legal Community Including Courthouse and Community Access.

Ms. Kornblau has published widely and is co-author of the book, Ethics in Rehabilitation: A Clinical Approach. She has lectured nationally and internationally about health, ethics, and legal issues and interventions to promote participation and quality of life. She is also the recipient of several endowed lectureships.
